This video shows the moment a man threw a brick at the Aston Villa team bus as it left Burnley on Sunday.

Bricks were thrown, causing significant damage to the bus after they hit the windscreen shortly before 5.15pm. Nobody on board was injured. Police have now released CCTV footage from inside the coach in a bid to identify those involved.

The grainy footage shows two men stood on the road below a motorway bridge before a brick is hurled at the coach.

Officers said one of the men is wearing ‘distinctive clothing’ which they hope may help somebody recognise them. They also appealed for information from anybody in the area who saw the incident or has dashcam footage.

A man arrested in relation to the incident has since been released no further action after it was found not to have been involved.

What has Lancashire Police said about the footage?

Supt Melita Worswick, of Lancashire Police, said: “This incident could have been so much worse and it is nothing but good luck that nobody was injured.

“The coach driver could have been injured by the broken glass, causing him to swerve into another vehicle, or another vehicle could have been hit by the brick. There could have been serious injuries or even fatalities. For this reason we are taking this incident extremely seriously.

“We have now released CCTV footage from the coach and are asking anybody who recognises the two men on the left to get in touch. We appreciate the footage of them is quite grainy, but one is wearing distinctive clothing and this may help somebody recognise them.

“The area was busy when incident occurred, with bank holiday traffic and people leaving the area following the football match between Burnley and Aston Villa.

“We believe there will be people out there who have not yet spoken to us, who either saw who was responsible or has dashcam showing the men more clearly. Whatever information you have please get in touch.

“Anybody with information can contact us on 101, quoting log 480 of August 27th.”

Burnely statement

Burnley FC previously said in a statement: “We are saddened and dismayed to learn about the attack. Having spoken with Villa we are relieved to hear nobody was hurt.

“We strongly condemn this behaviour and will support Lancashire Police in their efforts to find whoever was responsible.”
