Aston Villa are interested in signing superstar winger Eden Hazard from Real Madrid, according to sensational reports. The former Chelsea man has struggled for minutes at the Bernabeu, with just three La Liga appearances to his name so far this season.

The Lions are said to be eager to make the Belgian - who is looking for a move to get consistent playing time - their figurehead under new Villa manager Unai Emery. The 31-year-old, who remains a key international player ahead of the World Cup, has scored 33 goals in 122 matches for Belgium.

Spanish outlet Defensa Central claims Villa want to sign Hazard either in the January transfer window or later in 2023. Discussions are said to be ongoing and Emery has reportedly given the go-ahead for the deal. Hazard was widely regarded as one of the best players in the Premier League during his last spell in England.

He helped Chelsea to two Premier League titles, two Europa Leagues, an FA Cup, and an EFL Cup. Scoring 110 goals in 352 appearances across all competitions, Hazard was named Chelsea Player of the Year on four occasions throughout a seven-year spell between 2012 and 2019.

His fortunes changed somewhat with Los Blancos, as injuries and a lack of confidence set in for the attacker. With just seven goals and 11 assists in 72 matches for the Spanish giants, his £100m+ move has largely been deemed a failure.

Aston Villa could help revive his career, though, as there’s a real chance he would be the club’s star man heading into its new managerial era. He could perhaps be available for a cut price, too, with his Madrid contract expiring in 18 months.
