Aston Villa are about to start a new era amid the arrival of new boss Unai Emery, who takes over ahead of Sunday’s clash with Manchester United,

It has been a hugely disappointing start to the season from Villa, who find themselves just a point above the relegation zone as a result. Emery will now be tasked with lifting the Lions away from the drop zone and up towards the top half of the table.

He faces a difficult start, taking on United at Villa Park Sunday, but in the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Lions.

Emery eyes defender

Emery is already set to be eyeing up potential targets ahead of the January transfer window, and a surprise name has been linked. According to La Razon, Emery wants to take Villarreal star Pau Torres to Villa Park.

Torres has been linked with the likes of United and Chelsea in the past, but he remains with Villarreal. Villa be well-backed, but even they might struggle to pay the more than £50million it is going to take to land the centre-back.

Villa have also spent big to land a centre-back recently, signing Diego Carlos in the summer, albeit the Brazilian is out injured for most of this season.

January ‘priority’

Villa are said to be prioritising the signing of a winger ahead of the January window.

According to The Telegraph, Villa’s recruitment team have already held discussions with Emery and the board to establish what the squad needs in the winter window. And it has been decided that the priority should be a winger, according to the report.

Villa have already been linked with a number of Villarreal players, as you would expect, but the Midlands club are likely to cast their net wider as they consider targets.
