Unai Emery has confirmed Aston Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara sustained an injury - thought to be of the knee - during the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The Villans' number 44 went down in discomfort after landing awkwardly and was forced off in the 65th minute before heading straight down the tunnel. Fans watched on with great concern as Kamara has been a key player this season and there aren't many like-for-like replacements in the squad.

Emery was faced with a tricky decision as to who to bring on for Kamara as it all happened very quickly. Record signing Moussa Diaby was the man who got the nod but it soon became apparent that United were able to regain control in midfield following Kamara's injury. Youri Tielemans eventually came on for Leon Bailey to rectify that.

Asked for an update on Kamara in the post-match press conference, Emery was reluctant to give much away. "I don’t know exactly but tomorrow we will check. Hopefully it’s not a lot, but we will have to wait," Emery told Birmingham World.

"After the injury of Kamara, I decided to play Diaby with Bailey. Bailey, he did a very big effort and when I was thinking to protect in the middle with Tielemans, I decided to play with Moussa on the right. This is a tactical change and of course," Emery explained.

Villa now face a nervous wait for the results of Kamara's upcoming scan. All associated with the 24-year-old will be hoping for a different outcome to the knee injury suffered at the of the 2022-23 season. A new article will be published when an update surfaces.
