Following scans taken directly after the 5-1 defeat at Newcastle United, it can be asserted Mings’ knee damage is substantial and surgery will certainly be required.

It will be a lengthy rehabilitation process, perhaps similar to that of Diego Carlos judged on past experience at Bodymoor Heath.

Mings becomes the second Villa player to sustain a serious knee injury so early on in the season, merely days after Emiliano Buendía damaged his ACL in training.

BirminghamWorld wishes Mings a speedy recovery.
