'Contact made' - Fabrizio Romano issues major update on Aston Villa's pursuit of Chelsea star
Aston Villa have fallen behind in the race for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, according to a new report from transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The England international, high on the Villans’ midfield shortlist following a request from Unai Emery, could move abroad instead of Villa Park. Atletico Madrid have displayed an interest for several weeks and have now followed up on it, commencing discussions with Chelsea.

“Atleti have made contact with Chelsea for Gallagher as he’s one of the names in the shortlist. Not an easy deal as still expensive, but Atletico interest is genuine,” Romano said.
Gallagher is currently fully focused on representing the Three Lions at the 2024 UEFA European Championships in Germany but is expected to have a big decision to make upon his return.
Villa are still keen on signing the 24-year-old but it was claimed last week that he would prefer not to relocate to the Midlands. No talks have been made with the player yet, though, so convincing words from Emery could change matters.
