The latest transfer news as Wolves find out they must rush to sign a 21-goal striker and Aston Villa prepare to battle Tottenham for a Super Lig star.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will reportedly have to hurry if they want to sign transfer target Viktor Gyökeres as Sporting CP have now made the striker a priority this summer.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion man was key to Coventry City going all the way to the Championship play-off final as he scored 21 goals and assisted a further 10 in 46 matches.

His scintillating form and Coventry’s failure to achieve promotion to the Premier League mean plenty of clubs are on his tail ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Wolves have been heavily linked with Gyökeres for months and it looked as if a January move would be on the table, but the speculation never came to fruition.

Julen Lopetegui’s side must hurry, however, otherwise they may miss out on signing the 25-year-old. Foot Mercato claims Sporting want to sign Gyökeres “as soon as possible”.

The Portuguese outfit aren’t the only other club in the race either, as Brentford and Burnley are said to be interested in adding Gyökeres to their forward options.

With just one year left on the Sweden international’s Coventry contract, he could be available for somewhat of a discount price but is likely to still demand a sizeable fee.

This could make it difficult for Wolves to act with the urgency perhaps required to secure Gyökeres, due to the uncertainty around the club’s Financial Fair Play situation.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa eye Tottenham target

In other West Midlands transfer news, Wolves’ local rivals Aston Villa are said to be turning their attention to Galatasaray attacking midfielder Nicolò Zaniolo.

The Italian only moved to the Turkish Süper Lig six months ago but he’s only made 10 appearances in that time and is reportedly considering his options.

Tutto Juve claims Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are both keeping tabs on Zaniolo’s situation and as are Serie A giants Juventus. The 23-year-old has a €35 million release clause.

Two serious anterior cruciate ligament injuries have slowed down Zaniolo’s progress but he remains a top talent, with five goals in just 349 Süper Lig minutes.
