Aston Villa‘s big-name attacking midfielder, Philippe Coutinho, is looking likely to leave the club in the summer transfer window, as injury troubles have racked up and the Brazilian is unlikely to be part of Unai Emery’s plans going forward. On a sizeable salary following his £20 million move from Barcelona, a departure seems probable.
Coutinho, formerly of Liverpool and Bayern Munich, was an incredibly exciting addition when he initially joined on loan in January 2022, but things haven’t really worked out since. The 30-year-old netted five goals in 19 Premier League appearances throughout 2021-22 but only managed to score once after joining Villa permanently.
But Coutinho isn’t the only one expected to leave Villa Park this summer as there are a few contracts expiring and other players hoping to move on. With the transfer window still a few weeks away, there’s lots of uncertainty but we have a decent idea who might depart. Flick through the pages for a full run-through.
1. Ashley Young
The club legend will depart Villa Park at the end of June, it was announced by the club recently. Unai Emery held crunch talks with Young but decided it was time to part ways with the 37-year-old. | Getty Images
2. Jed Steer
Another utterly brilliant servant, the goalkeeper is leaving after 10 years at the club. Has had a torrid time with injuries, particularly a series Achilles tendon issue, and will leave this month. | Getty Images
3. Keinan Davis
Has had a couple of fairly successful loan moves in the Championship - at Nottingham Forest and Watford - but looks unlikely to break through for Villa. He has a year left on his deal and this could be the last proper chance for the Villans to coup some funds from him. | Getty Images
4. Marvelous Nakamba
Was seen as surplus to requirements by Emery during the second half of the season as he was loaned to Luton Town. He did brilliantly at Kenilworth Road, though, which causes a small headache. You’d expect him to go in the summer rebuild. | Getty Images
