Aston Villa are reportedly still interested in making an offer for Stade Rennais winger Jeremy Doku, even after closing in on the signing of Bayer Leverkusen forward Moussa Diaby.

It’s claimed the Villans would like to sign Doku in addition to Diaby as Unai Emery builds a squad capable of competing at the highest level, both in Europe and the Premier League.

Previously, it was assumed Doku, who Liverpool are credited to have a strong interest in, would only be considered if a bid for Diaby failed or he moved to Saudi outfit Al-Nassr instead.

Now, though, even with the Diaby move all but complete with a medical scheduled and contracts set to be signed as soon as Friday, it seems Villa could try and sign both players.

Sports Zone, via Get Football News France, claims the desire is there to bring in more than one new winger and interest remains in Doku, who is enticed by a move to the Premier League.

Liverpool could yet make an approach due to their interest - so there’s competition - but if their financial demands are met, Rennes will be prepared to sell the 21-year-old this summer.

Doku has played 14 times for the Belgium national team, scoring two goals.

With 6.7 successful dribbles per 90, Doku ranked top of Ligue 1’s best ball carriers last season and was significantly better than second-placed Edon Zhegrova, who recorded 4.5.

Even with plenty of room to improve, the Belgian scored six goals and contributed two assists in 29 league appearances last term. He also set up two goals in the Europa League.
