Aston Villa have reportedly completed the free signing of a 19-year-old with a direct link to Erling Haaland.

The Villans are said to have acquired the services of Norwegian Under-18 international Ethan Amundsen-Day following the expiry of his contract at Danish outfit FC Copenhagen.

The centre-back has never played in the first team but he’s already racked up 68 appearances and 4,568 minutes at academy level, ranging from the Under-19 Boys League in Denmark to the UEFA Youth League.

Danish publication Tipsbladet reports Amundsen-Day has been very proactive before the end of his Copenhagen contract, sealing a transfer around two weeks in advance. It’s claimed the Norwegian has been snapped up by Villa and he will join the Under-21 setup.

The deal is yet to be formally announced by either club but it’s stated that everything is complete. The length of Amundsen-Day’s contract hasn’t been mentioned but there will be no transfer fee involved, making it a low-risk deal for Villa.

Villa signing has similiarity to Erling Haaland

Amundsen-Day has a rather unique link to Manchester City superstar Erling Braut Haaland as he too was born in Leeds but grew up in Norway. Amundsen-Day’s first club was Fredrikstad FK in the Norwegian top tier - the Eliterserien - while Haaland’s was Bryne.

Villa’s new academy signing has British citizenship as he has an English father and a Norwegian mother, making it a simple task to acquire a work permit. His signing is expected to be confirmed by Villa on or around June 30, when he officially departs Copenhagen.
