Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze is reportedly closing in on a big-money permanent transfer amid interest from Aston Villa, Manchester United and Al-Nassr.

The Nigerian has spent his entire career with the Yellow Submarine but has decided he wants a new challenge, following on from 37 goals and 31 assists in 207 appearances.

For a long while it seemed Unai Emery was determined enough to reunite with his former player and a move looked likely. Man Utd have also been heavily linked.

Now, though, transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano reports Serie A giants AC Milan are the side set to sign Chukwueze, with the player expected in Italy this week.

The 24-year-old is now on the verge of becoming a new Rossoneri player, with a bargain €20 million (£17.3 million) fee plus add-ons being negotiated.

What did this mean for Aston Villa?

Having already signed winger Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen in a club-record deal, Villa won’t be too fazed by Chukwueze’s move.

Although Emery is still said to be looking for another forward addition in addition to Diaby, there are other options being discussed.

Had Diaby not been signed, then it may have been a different story as the interest in Chukwueze was legitimate. Even then, Jeremy Doku was higher on the list.
