Aston Villa have reportedly been handed a major setback in their pursuit of Mallorca forward Kang-In Lee as Paris Saint-Germain are in advanced talks to sign him.

The Ligue 1 giants have already signed Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio from under Villa’s noses but are now hoping to perform a similar act by acquiring Kang-In Lee’s services.

Spanish publication Marca claims “negotiations between PSG and Mallorca are well advanced and the parties hope to close the agreement very soon”.

The Parisiens jumped in shortly after Atletico Madrid, who seemed to be leading the race, pulled out of any potential deal. Atleti had been tracking Kang-In Lee for some time.

Burnley, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United are all said to have been “potential suitors” but the PSG move is now “advancing decisively”, leaving little wiggle room.

The Villans will need to take this as a warning to get a jiffy on if they are to have any chance of making a deal happen, especially as the player has already agreed to personal terms with PSG.

Kang-In Lee scored six goals and notched six assists in 33 La Liga starts throughout 2022/23. The 22-year-old also registered an assist for South Korea at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Meanwhile, Wolves prepare for surprise loan approach

In other West Midlands transfer news, Villa’s local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers are said to be preparing to receive a loan bid from Sporting CP for Pedro Neto.

Portuguese outlets are reporting Sporting are “currently weighing up a potential loan move for Neto” and that “coming to Sporting could help re-launch his career”.

The winger, who signed for Wolves from Lazio in 2019 for a fee in the region of £15 million, failed to contribute a single goal in 18 Premier League matches last season.

Injuries certainly haven’t helped his case, though, as the 23-year-old has been sidelined for much of the two previous campaigns. A run of games could help Neto return to his best.
