Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has revealed that he has set a points target for his side to meet between now and the end of the Premier League season.

Thursday night’s 3-0 win over Leeds United made it three wins in a row for the first time this season and catapulted Villa into the top half of the table on 36 points.

With a game in hand on those around them, European football is still lingering as a possibility in the distance and with sixth placed West Ham United up next, it will give a real benchmark as to what this team are capable of.

Whilst Gerrard made it clear he was taking things just one game at a time, he did admit that he has set a strong points tally for the claret & blue to end the campaign with.

“Yes,” he smirked, when asked if he’s set his side a target.

“But I’m not telling you.

“Because if I don’t reach them you’ll say I’ve failed, won’t you?

“Listen we have internal targets of course we do, we want to try and aim as high as we can.

“That win puts us in the top half of the league but as we were reminded in the previous question, the challenges are going to get tougher and tougher.

“I think there’s 11 or 12 games left to go. We want to try and stay in this place, we want to try take as many points as we can and see where we finish up but the idea is to give us a really good platform going into a real important pre-season.”
