Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard claims ‘nothing has surprised’ him during the journey so far at Villa Park whilst reflecting on his first few months in charge.

Saturday’s trip to Brighton & Hove Albion sees Gerrard back up versus the opponents it all started off against back in November, meaning the former Liverpool captain has surpassed his first real landmark has Head Coach.

The reverse fixture at Villa Park brought with it immense joy and a renewed optimism for all those concerned with the claret & blue and it’s a memory that can never be taken away.

Looking back on that first match Gerrard said: “Well look, that was a fantastic day because we took over a team that were in a difficult place, there’s no doubt about it.

“I think the way we won, the time when the goals come, I think there was a lot of relief in the air so it was obviously a fantastic day to get off to a positive start and we went and built on that.”

And looking at his first three months as boss in the west midlands as a whole, the scouser says he’s just taking every day at it comes, with the main focus giving the fans what they deserve in the here and now.

“In terms of the job, nothing has surprised me in terms of the journey,” Gerrard added.

“OK, we punched a little bit above our weight in terms of the initial bounce we had winning that amount of games after the run that they were on was probably a bit of a surprise.

“But did I expect us to have some tough runs? Yes. Did I expect us to have some set-backs? Of course.

“The important thing for me is, how we behave when these are happening and at the moment we’re all aware that our fans deserve and need a performance and that’s what we’re working towards.”
