The Football Association have revealed the staggering figures that clubs spent on agent fees up and down the country during 2021/22 and despite the mind-blowing numbers on show, Aston Villa and Wolves both sit below the Premier League average.

According to the FA’s website, the figures show the total payments made to intermediaries registered in England between the dates of 2nd February 2021 and 31st January 2022.

Villa spent a total of £9,557,054 on ‘agents/intermediaries’ which is well shy of the league average and when you consider the amount of money spent in the transfer window, they haven’t done too badly with that.

Wanderers on the other hand eclipsed eight figures and despite not being huge players in the transfer market of late, racked up a total of £11,958,945.

What does need to be taken account though is things such as contract extensions which are of course part of the numbers. When a player gets a shiny new contract, their agent gets a little tip also.

Max Kilman signed a new long-term deal at Molineux back in November and that will have played a big part in the overall number spent by Bruno Lage’s side.

The Premier League average comes out at £13.6m with the biggest spenders in Manchester City skewing that a little bit with their huge spend of £35,046,646.

Cross-city rivals Manchester United weren’t far behind with a whopping £29,036,141 whilst the now owner-less Chelsea were third with £28,227,858.

That total of City’s is more than ten times that of the league’s lowest spenders, Brentford.

Thomas Frank’s Bees spent just £3,499,285 during that twelve month spell with Southampton (£4.9m) and Burnley (£6.0m) making up the bottom three.

Overall, Premier League clubs spent a grand total of £272,559,227 on agent fees over the course of the last 12 months, a marginal increase on the year prior.
