In fairness, from a Villa perspective, it’s looking pretty rosy this year.

After an impressive 20/21 campaign, a lot of the squad have seen increases in their overalls and the new additions all rate pretty well, too.

From best, to fastest and much more - here’s how Aston Villa’s team fare in FIFA 22.

Top rated

From a relatively average card to the best in the squad - Emiliano Martinez is Villa’s highest rated player in the new game.

He started off the previous edition ranked 78 and jumps up to 84 in FIFA 22.

After a superb season in claret & blue followed by an international tournament win with Argentina in the summer, it’s fair to say the the shot-stopper has earned it.

Rating boost

Jacob Ramsey gets the biggest boost to his overall, adding a huge +12 to his rating on the previous year. He goes from a bronze 55 rated card to a steady 67 silver. You could argue he deserves even better than that!

Ramsey was among a number of improvements in the Villa ranks. He joins Ezri Konsa (71-78), Martinez (78-84), Tyrone Mings (75-78), Anwar El-Ghazi (75-76), Matty Cash (75-78), Ollie Watkins (76-78), Matt Targett (76-77), John McGinn (76-78), Douglas Luiz (75-77), Kortney Hause (72-75) & Jed Steer (70-72).

Rating slide

Though Villa had a successful season as shown by the sheer number of players that were awarded an increase in their rating on FIFA 22, there were was just one unfortunate fellow that saw his slide.

No thanks to his injury problems, Morgan Sanson drops from a 79 to a 76, though I’m sure that’s the least of the Frenchman’s worries.

Fastest

No surprises for guessing that the Jamaican speedster that is Leon Bailey takes the crown for fastest in the squad.

His 93 pace beats out fellow teammates Caleb Chukwuemeka and Watkins who come in with 86 and 85 pace respectively.

There are no glaringly slow players within the team which always bodes well. Hause is the one who ranks slowest with 61 to his name. EA obviously didn’t see him running towards the away end at Old Trafford after that 88th minute winner.

Skill moves & weak foot

No players within the squad boast five star straits in either skill-moves or weak-foot but there are plenty that have four.

Bailey, Buendia, Sanson, El-Ghazi & Trezeguet all have four star in both of the above traits making them highly attractive assets in the game.

Ashley Young and Bertrand Traore also have four star skill moves but the latter only holds one one star weak foot meaning he won’t be making many teams.

Others that hold the four star weak-foot trait include Martinez, Watkins and Chukwuemeka.

Worst player

The infamous award that nobody wants goes to Ben Chrisene who barely breaks 50 overall, rated 51.

Chrisene signed for Villa from Exeter City back in Augut 2020 and was part of the youth squad that lifted the FA Youth Cup in May 2021.

Still only 17-years-old, the teenager has a big career ahead of him and has plenty of time to improve his FIFA rating. I’m sure that will be the top of his priority list, anyway.
