It was another week of shocks and excitement in the Premier League as the likes of Aston Villa, Brentford and Nottingham Forest enjoyed surprise results as 2022 crossed into 2023. West Midlands side Villa were perhaps the most delighted of the lot as they continued their fine resurgence under new manager Unai Emery.
The Spaniard has led his team to three wins in four Premier League fixtures since taking over, with the only defeat in this period being against Liverpool on Boxing Day. The Lions are now looking up the table rather than down, and a number of their players are beginning to flourish.
Brentford have been a really surprise package once again this season and they are showing no sign of letting off as they managed two impressive wins. The first was away at West Ham United and the next was just three days later as Thomas Frank’s side - rather remarkably - swept Liverpool aside by three goals to one.
Nottingham Forest gained a valuable point in a 1-1 draw as they hosted an out-of-sorts Chelsea team on Sunday, meanwhile, Leeds United were able to hold Newcastle United to a 0-0 at St James’ Park. Many a defender impressed in that particular game.
Here is how the Premier League team of the week shapes up after yet another thrilling weekend of action.
