Premier League team of the week dominated by Aston Villa, Arsenal, Newcastle and Leicester - gallery

Here’s how the Premier League team of the week shapes up for the weekend of March 17-19 – as Aston Villa, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Leicester City dominate.

It was a quieter weekend in the Premier League with a number of fixtures postponed for the Quarter Finals of the Emirates FA Cup, but that didn’t mean it was short of excitement. Just seven of the games went ahead but there were a staggering 27 goals scored – averaging nearly four per game as just one clean sheet was kept.

Aston Villa were the only side to register a defensive shutout this weekend as they thrashed AFC Bournemouth by three goals to nil, boosting their hopes of finishing in the top half. Meanwhile, Southampton impressed in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United managed a huge 4-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the relegation fight.

Chelsea were held to a 2-2 stalemate by Everton at Stamford Bridge, whereas across London there was a 4-1 win for Arsenal over Crystal Palace. The Friday evening kick off saw Newcastle United narrowly beat Nottingham Forest away from home, while Leicester City’s struggles continued in a 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday.

So many players impressed this weekend just gone that it would be difficult to select just 11 to form a team of the week but, rather thankfully, WhoScored’s rating system makes things a lot easier. With that in mind, here are the best-performing stars based on WhoScored ratings. See below.
