Here’s how the Premier League team of the week shapes up for the weekend of February 24-26 – as Aston Villa, Tottenham, Leeds, Man City and West Ham dominate.
The focus on the Premier League took somewhat of a back seat on the weekend of February 24-26 as a battle of the two Uniteds took place in the Carabao Cup Final, but it was a decent couple of days of action nonetheless.
Manchester United came out on top at Wembley Stadium, beating Newcastle United 2-0, but the league action saw far more goalscoring. From West Ham United thrashing Nottingham Forest 4-0 to Manchester City easing to a 4-1 victory at AFC Bournemouth, the net bulged on plenty of occasions.
There were some huge results in the relegation battle as Leeds United got one over Southampton on home soil, beating the Saints by one goal to nil, and Everton were knocked back into the bottom three as they were well beaten by Aston Villa.
Meanwhile, Gabriel Martinelli’s goal handed Arsenal a 1-0 win at Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur beat local rivals Chelsea 2-0 and Crystal Palace held Liverpool to a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park. The Friday night fixture saw Fulham share the points with Wolverhampton Wanderers in a 1-1 stalemate.
So many players impressed this weekend just gone that it would be difficult to select just 11 players to form a team of the week but, rather thankfully, WhoScored’s rating system makes things a lot easier. With that in mind, here are the best-performing stars based on WhoScored ratings. See below.
