Here are the best-performing Premier League players from the penultimate weekend of the season, May 20-22.

The penultimate weekend of the Premier League season certainly didn’t disappoint as the champions were crowned and fates were sealed for clubs in the European and relegation battles.

It all kicked off with a surprise 3-1 win for Brentford away at Tottenham Hotspur, putting the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa on red alert as the result boosted their Europa League hopes.

The Villans so nearly capitalised at Anfield but Jacob Ramsey’s opener was matched as Roberto Firmino netted a 90th-minute equaliser on his last-ever home Liverpool appearance.

The Seagulls did manage to benefit from Spurs’ defeat as they beat Southampton by three goals to one to secure European football for the first time in their history. Albion are one point away from locking in sixth place.

Newcastle United had similar celebrations at St. James’ Park on Monday evening as their 0-0 draw with Leicester City ensured a top-four finish and Champions League qualification for the first time since 2003.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest’s shock 1-0 win over a depleted Arsenal side meant survival from relegation was guaranteed as Leeds United, Leicester City and Everton all dropped points.

Wolverhampton Wanderers held the Toffees to a 1-1 stalemate at Molineux, West Ham United thrashed Sam Allardyce’s Lilywhites 3-1 and Leicester failed to beat Newcastle under the lights.

Elsewhere, Fulham and Crystal Palace entertained supporters with a thrilling 2-2 draw, Manchester United edged past AFC Bournemouth with a 1-0 victory and newly-crowned champions Manchester City beat Chelsea by the same scoreline.

So many players impressed over the 10 fixtures that it would be tricky to pick just 11 to form a team of the week, but WhoScored’s rating system makes things easier. With that in mind, flick through the pages to see the best-performing stars.
