Premier League table based only on home form: Much different outcomes for Liverpool, Leeds United and Wolves

The Premier League table would have looked much different from top to bottom if it was based purely on home form alone.

Villa Park was far from a fortress throughout the 2021/22 campaign for Aston Villa Football Club.

The claret and blue picked up just six wins on home soil across the year, three of those coming off of teams that finished below them in the table and another coming off of Newcastle United before their influx of money in the January transfer window.

Had they picked up a few more points or turned some of their five draws against lowly opposition like Burnley and Leeds United into wins, the outcome of this season could have looked much different for Villa.

Ultimately, their poor home form cost them a top 10 finish but it cost others much more dearly.

Norwich and Watford’s failure to get a run of any sort going in their own backyard saw them relegated long before the close of the campaign.

On the flipside, however, teams like Everton who retained their Premier League status by the skin of their teeth did so because the were able to muster up some pretty solid results at Goodison Park.

It should never be underestimated just how important a good home record can be in football but what would the table look like if it was based solely on just that?

BirminghamWorld have taken a look at the Premier League table in full, to see what it would look like, based only on the 19 home games of the 2021/22 season.

Had they picked up a few more points or turned some of their five draws against lowly opposition like Burnley and Leeds United into wins, the outcome of this season could have looked much different for Villa.
