Premier League club suffer major injury blow ahead of Aston Villa and Wolves clashes

Crystal Palace have suffered a major injury blow with clashes against Aston Villa and Wolves to come.

Crystal Palace have been dealt an injury blow ahead of the final weeks of the season, with clashes against Aston Villa and Wolves on the horizon. The Eagles haven't enjoyed the best of seasons, but they have managed to claw their way towards safety, currently eight points above the drop zone with a game in hand.

Oliver Glasner's men will need a couple of wins between now and the end of the season to secure another season with Premier League safety, but with 10 games left to play, they are well on their way. Their task has been made more difficult by an injury blow, however, with goalkeeper Sam Johnstone now ruled out for the rest of the season.

The stopper has suffered an elbow injury that requires surgery, and he will not only miss the rest of the season but Euro 2024 as well. Johnstone was likely to receive an England call-up for the tournament, albeit it's unlikely he would have featured as a starter.

Johnstone appears to have picked up the injury during England duty over the break, injuring his elbow in training, and he will not play for Palace again until the pre-season. That's a big blow for Palace, who will now likely rely upon former Manchester United star Dean Henderson for the rest of the season.

The news is relevant for Aston Villa and Wolves because Palace play the latter on the penultimate day of the season and the former on the very last day of the Premier League campaign.
