Aston Villa failed to sign a midfielder in January after missing out on Rodrigo Bentancur and are set to revive their pursuit in the summer.

The Premier League club have been linked with the likes of Boubacar Kamara and Franck Kessie, while they have also expressed interest in ex-Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

However, they may reconsider a move for the Dutchman after Paris Saint-Germain placed a £21 million price tag on his head, according to SPORT.

Wijnaldum was one of Liverpool’s most reliable players during his time on Merseyside, making over 200 appearances in five years with the club.

The 31-year-old joined PSG last summer after his contract with Liverpool expired, however he has struggled to replicate his Premier League form in France.

Despite paying absolutely nothing for Wijnaldum, PSG are eager to make a profit if he is to leave the club - with his contract not set to expire for another two-and-a-half years.

The staggering price tag could see Aston Villa turn their attentions elsewhere given his visible regression as he nears 32.

However, if the midfielder could recapture his Liverpool form then it could prove to be a brilliant move - it will depend on whether Steven Gerrard is prepared to take the risk.

Kamara and Kessie could both leave Marseille and AC Milan respectively on free transfers this summer and so could seem more tempting than splashing the cash on Wijnaldum.
