‘Of course we can’ — Unai Emery confident in ‘very demanding’ Aston Villa after Luton Town win

Aston Villa secured their seventh win of the Premier League season on Sunday after a 3-1 victory over new boys Luton Town at Villa Park. Thanks to goals from John McGinn, Moussa Diaby, and an own goal from Tom Lockyer, the Villans extend their unbeaten run to six games in England’s top flight.

Unai Emery’s side qualified for the Europa Conference League last season but the aim is push on to go even better moving forward. Villa currently sit fifth in the Premier League table and will definitely fancy their chances at challenging for a top four spot, especially with them currently a fair bit ahead of Manchester United and Newcastle, who both secured Champions League football last term.

Emery discussed his side’s win after the match and admitted to Sky Sports that he is happy with how things are moving and there is belief within this Villa side, who are ‘very demanding’ as they head into each match.

“We are winning matches because we are being very focused, we are being very demanding in our defensive structure, we are trying to build a team with high commitment,” the manager said.

“We are between another seven teams, they show their power consistently. But if we are working like that and doing this process, being demanding, being strong, of course we can progress and still keep the moment we have now in the table.

“I want to face each match being focused, preparing properly and being demanding. We have played Liverpool and Newcastle and they were better than us. When we lost against Liverpool and Newcastle, I told the players I want to reduce the distance they showed when they come here.

“There is still a lot of work to do and still a lot of things we can improve. Tactically, try to be more consistent for 90 minutes. I am very happy but I think there are things that can improve.”

Villa’s next challenge will see them travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest next Sunday.
