Matteo Guendouzi to Aston Villa update on transfer deadline day.

Aston Villa will not be signing Marseille midfielder Matteo Guendouzi on transfer deadline day, according to a reputable report.

Linked tirelessly with a move to Villa Park throughout January, the Frenchman will stay in Ligue 1 as Marseille have no intention of letting him leave.

New head coach Unai Emery worked with Guendouzi at Arsenal and it was hoped he could reunite with his former colleague, but that has now been ruled out.

As things stand, there are no concrete reports of the Villans looking at any alternatives. The transfer business may be done with Alex Moreno and Jhon Duran.

Fabrizio Romano broke the news on Twitter this morning, as he wrote: “Marseille have no intention to let Matteo Guendouzi leave today. No talks taking place with Aston Villa.”

The reliable transfer news journalist also said Marseille won’t be letting go of right-back Jonathan Clauss amid interest from Atletico Madrid.

It’s not all doom and gloom for Villa as there are still some very good options within the Lions’ current squad, with Boubacar Kamara and Douglas Luiz shining of late.
