Matt Targett, when asked about his Newcastle United future, said: “I think everyone knows what I want.”

The left-back joined the Magpies on loan from Aston Villa in January, which has coincided with the club’s remarkable form in 2022.

Targett has been an integral part of the side that has surged away from Premier League relegation trouble - starting all 15 games he’s been available for.

It is believed United have a £15million option to sign the 26-year-old permanently, however no decision has yet been by Eddie Howe.

Certainly, it seems, Targett is hoping that Sunday’s clash at Burnley won’t be his last in a black and white shirt

‘Everyone knows what I want’

Asked about his future, Targett told NUFCTV: “I think everyone knows what I want but it’s up to the club.

“It’s a massive project, an exciting project. I’m sure everyone wants to be a part of it.”

During a special atmosphere at St James’ Park on Monday, the chant “one Matty Targett” was heard on the terraces as United all-but ended Arsenal’s Champions League hopes with a 2-0 victory.

‘I’ve loved every single minute of it’

“Incredible,” Targett said. “I said a few weeks ago, since I’ve been here, the fans have been incredible, They’ve welcomed me. I’ve really enjoyed my time here so we’ll see.

“With it being our last home game of the season, we wanted to put on a performance. We started the game really fast, got the crowd on our side and they were electric today. Us players were feeding off that.

“It was probably our best performance during the second-half of the season, for sure.

“Everyone has worked so hard. The manager has made a massive difference. The players have bought into that and added quality in January, which has given everyone a lift.

“I’ve loved every single minute of it. It’s been an incredible place to play my football.”
