Marco Asensio has decided to join Paris Saint-Germain instead of Aston Villa, a reputable report has confirmed.

The winger, who is leaving Real Madrid on a free transfer upon the expiration of his contract, had a dilemma between the two clubs but has now made his final call.

PSG have been trying to convince Asensio’s agent, Jorge Mendes, that Paris is the right destination and that seems to have gone all the way through to the player.

The Athletic reports “Asensio has decided to join PSG. Not signed yet but expected to be concluded after [Madrid’s] last game”, set to be played on Sunday, June 4.

This follows Fabrizio Romano’s claims the Parisiens’ interest was holding up a move to Villa Park, with a ‘no green light’ message issued.

It’s a pity for Unai Emery’s side as Villa are in need of a winger and Asensio remains a top player, despite seeing a reduction in game time at the Bernabeu.

The 27-year-old, still very much in his prime, scored nine goals and assisted six in 30 La Liga appearances throughout the 2022-23 campaign.

Many of these showings were off the bench, while Asensio also netted three in the UEFA Champions League, including in the first leg of the Quarter Final against Chelsea.
