Man Utd and Aston Villa ‘battle’ for midfielder & 12 deadline day transfers that could still happen - gallery

Taking a look at the Premier League deadline deals that could still go ahead, including a midfielder linked with Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Aston Villa are set to go to battle with Manchester United for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar before the transfer deadline at 11pm tonight. The Villans have reportedly turned to the Frenchman after a move for Matteo Guendouzi failed, but the Red Devils are said to be swooping in at the last minute.

According to Football Insider, Villa made contact with Lyon today over a potential loan deal for Aouar, with negotiations underway. In fresh news, however, United are trying to hijack a deal. Foot Mercato report that Erik ten Hag’s side are willing to pay Aouar’s full salary, bringing him to Old Trafford on loan.

It was thought that United’s deadline day business might be over after a deal was all but wrapped up for Bayern Munich star Marcel Sabitzer. But following an injury to key player Christian Eriksen, the Champions League challengers want Aouar as an additional option in the centre of the mark.

Villa remain contenders as Emery has made it clear he wants a new midfielder to compliment the likes of Boubacar Kamara and Douglas Luiz. United are likely the favourites for the 24-year-old, though, for the midfielder who was previously tipped widely to be world-class.

But what about elsewhere in the Premier League?

There are also plenty of other deals across the English top flight currently still yet to be announced at the time of publication, including Chelsea’s audacious move for Enzo Fernandez, Tottenham Hotspur’s dash for Pedro Porro, and Nottingham Forest’s swoop for Keylor Navas.

With a few hours left until the deadline, here are the deals that could still happen in the Premier League. See below.
