Liverpool star ‘turned down’ offers from Aston Villa and Newcastle to stay at Anfield

The former Villa midfielder reportedly rejected the chance to return to Villa Park this summer

Liverpool midfielder James Milner reportedly turned down offers from his former clubs Aston Villa and Newcastle United to sign a one-year contract extension at Anfield.

That’s according to Goal, which reports that Milner also turned down offers from a number of MLS clubs to remain with Jurgen Klopp’s side this summer.

The Leeds-born midfielder joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Manchester City in 2015, going on to make 289 appearances for the club.

Milner has helped Klopp’s side win the Premier League and Champions League during his time on Merseyside, and his experience will be one of the key reasons why Klopp wanted to keep the 36-year-old at Anfield for another year.

Luiz latest

Villa are said to be standing firm over Douglas Luiz amid intense interest this summer.

Luiz could well be offloaded a year before his contract expires, but Villa are not interested in losing him on the cheap.

According to UOL via SportWitness, the Lions won’t allow the midfielder to leave for any less than their value of £30.1million.

The report comes amid talk of interest from a number of clubs, with AC Milan said to be the most interested.
