Aston Villa and Wolves both have until the end of the window to sign players

Liverpool sit top of the Premier League table with Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Manchester City below them. The Reds turned to Arne Slot last year after Jurgen Klopp’s exit and he has made a great start to life at Anfield as his side chase down the title.

Aston Villa are in 8th place and are chasing down a place in Europe along with the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle United and AFC Bournemouth. Unai Emery’s men reached the top four last term but have had to balance Champions League football with their domestic duties which has naturally been tough.

At the bottom the end of the league, it has been a tough campaign for Wolves so far. They turned to Vitor Pereira as their replacement for Gary O’Neil following their poor run of form and they are battling for survival.

They have slipped into the bottom three along with Ipswich Town and Southampton. Leicester City sit a point above them in the league.

Will Aston Villa qualify for Europe?

Aston Villa have the chance to bring in some new faces before the end of the January transfer window to further bolster their ranks. They also have the opportunity to let some individuals head out the exit door should they wish to which would help free up space and funds in their ranks.

Emery has depth in his squad and will need it as they have some European fixtures coming their way. Playing a couple of games a week does take it’s toll and they need to be prepared for the workload.

They have drawn their last two games on the spin in the league against Arsenal and West Ham. They face Celtic in the Champions League up next.

Speaking after their 1-1 draw with West Ham last time out, Emery said: “We missed a little bit some fresh legs and we tried with Jhon Durán, with (Donyell) Malen, with (Emi) Buendía, but maybe without the central midfielders and central defenders, and with Lucas (Digne) at centre-back in place of (Tyrone) Mings, we were a little bit without the power we usually have.”

Will Wolves be relegated?

Wolves are lacking consistency and need to tighten things up at the back. Pereira made an immediate positive impact when he first came in earlier this winter but results have started to fall off.

They lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal last time out. Meanwhile, their rivals Leicester won 2-1 away at Tottenham Hotspur in a surprise result.
