An agreement has been struck for a £45m Aston Villa and Man Utd target, also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur.

Bayern Munich attacker Mathys Tel has performed a dramatic deadline day U-turn and will join Tottenham on loan despite previously rejecting the North London club on Sunday.

Aston Villa and Manchester United have both held talks at varying lengths over the possibility of signing Tel before tonight’s 11pm deadline but he’ll be heading to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium instead.

Sky Germany broke the news this afternoon that Tel has had a change of heart after initially turning Spurs down. Some details of the deal still need to be fully ironed out but the 19-year-old forward is on his way to England to undergo medical tests.

Fabrizio Romano has utilised his infamous ‘here we go’ slogan to confirm as much. Posting to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Romano said: “Mathys Tel to Tottenham on loan, here we go! Straight loan and NO buy option clause.

“Agreement reached between clubs as Bayern have accepted player’s decision and player on his way with agent Gadiri Camara. Tottenham will cover full salary of Mathys Tel until June as part of the loan agreement with FC Bayern. Tel will be back to Bayern in June.”

Eight-times a France Under-21 international, Tel contributed an impressive 10 goals and six assists in just 1,406 minutes of action last season, working out at a goal involvement every 87 minutes.

It’s not quite been as free-flowing for Tel this campaign, however, as he has failed to score a single goal in 14 appearances. Most of those have been off the bench, with the likes of Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala, Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry preferred.

Predominantly a left forward but also capable of playing as an out-and-out striker or a right winger, Tel’s versatility makes him an attractive option for a host of suitors. Bayern wanted to keep hold of the teenager originally but the player has expressed a desire to leave.

Aston Villa no longer focused on Mathys Tel

Although Villa were at once stage in talks to sign Tel, the priority was always to complete alternative business. The Villans have confirmed the loan acquisition of Marcus Rashford from Manchester United for starters, with the 60-time England international signed with an option to buy.

Birmingham World understands Villa will cover around 75 per cent of Rashford’s wages and the buy option stands at £40 million, a clause Emery can decide to activate in the summer if he so desires.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain attacking midfielder Marco Asensio will follow Rashford through the doors at Villa Park. It’s understood the three-time Champions League winner has passed a medical ahead of a straight six-month loan deal, with Villa paying a fee and covering his full salary for that period.
