Gary Lineker and Micah Richards stunned by what £15m Aston Villa talent has done
Gary Lineker and Micah Richards have heaped praise on an Aston Villa player.
Lineker and Richards, both former England internationals and currently pundits on BBC Match of the Day, have been keeping a close eye on Villa’s progress.
It’s been a terrific start to the 2024/25 season for the Villans, who have won four of their opening five Premier League fixtures. It was a victorious beginning to the Champions League campaign, too, with a dominant 3-0 win away at Young Boys last Tuesday.
Although there have been several standout players throughout August and September, Lineker and Richards have been particularly impressed by one player. There’s also been some understandable praise for manager Unai Emery, who has been instrumental to the individual’s progression.
Speaking on podcast series The Rest is Football, Lineker said: “Morgan Rogers is a player isn’t he, he’s a handful! When he runs at players, he kind of glides past them really quickly, he’s so strong that he never gets knocked off the ball. I think he’s a real talent.”
Richards then added: “We’ve picked him out a couple of times. He’s got that confidence and he’s fearless as well. If you remember when Jacob Ramsey broke through, he reminds me of that. A lot of the good work comes through him, whether it’s running with the ball or is his strength or skill.
“That’s down to the manager (Emery) as well. Having those young players, you’ve got to believe and trust in them because when they first sign it’s about what you can bring. Rogers has taken his chance and he’s a really quality player. I’m excited to see more of him.”
