Aston Villa have had a stunning start to the 2022/23 summer transfer window.
Four permanent signings have already been announced in the form of Philippe Coutinho, Diego Carlos, Boubacar Kamara and Robin Olsen and the incomings aren’t expected to stop there.
Steven Gerrard is still thought to be after a left-sided defender, a battling midfielder and a forward - depending on where the future of Cameron Archer lies.
We are of course now well into transfer season, or silly season as it’s known to many and rumours are swirling.
Due to the overhaul expected at Villa Park and the money available, the claret and blue, like Premier League rivals Newcastle United, appear to be being linked with every man and their dog.
And whilst a lot are nonsense, some do have a bit of credibility behind them.
BirminghamWorld have looked through all of the latest rumours and judged which ones actually have some legs to them and those that don’t.
Each player has been ranked and rated based on how likely they are to sign for the club, from very unlikely, to possible.

5. Calvin Bassey - Unlikely
What once looked a very likely signing looks more unlikely by the day. Rangers appear to be demanding a huge fee that Villa simply won’t pay for Bassey and unless that changes, it’s hard to see a move developing. Photo: Alex Pantling
6. Nathan Collins - Possible
Another Burnley defender that has been catching the eye of a number of Premier League clubs is Collins. He’s very highly rated and would no doubt instantly battle for a starting place at Villa Park, however, the fact he isn’t a left-sided player may stop this one from happening.
7. Sergio Gomez - Possible
Gomez is another like Otavio that only came to fruition very recently. BirminghamLive reported [via the Athletic] that Villa were monitoring him as a cheaper alternative for Bassey and he does fit the bill. He can play centre-back and left-back and could be worth keeping an eye on over the coming weeks.
8. Conor Gallagher - Possible
After an incredibly successful loan spell with Crystal Palace last season, it’s no surprise to see Gallagher attracting a lot of interest. A lot will depend on what parent club Chelsea can offer him and the fee he will cost if made available this summer but he certainly fits the bill for what Gerrard is after.
