Rumours surrounding the future of Moura in North London really heated up on deadline day with a number of Premier League clubs, most notably Newcastle and Villa emerging as favourites for his signature.

Nothing did in the end develop and the 30-year-old, who has one-year left on his contract with Antonio Conte’s side, ultimately ended up staying put.

This of course made many believe that it was simply a case of some classic transfer deadline paper-talk, however, Romano revealed that this was not the truth, confirming that the Magpies and Villa did indeed both makes approaches to Spurs.

“Newcastle wanted Lucas Moura as they approached Tottenham during Deadline Day, same for Aston Villa,” he explained via Twitter.

“Spurs decided to keep the player, never been advanced.

“Lucas future remains open as he’s out of contract in June 2023 and there are chances for a free move.”
