Dean Smith guided his boyhood club back to the Premier League three years ago, after three years away.
2018/19 will live long in the memory of Aston Villa fans.
It was the year they returned to England’s top flight after three seasons playing in the Championship.
A 2-1 victory over Derby County at Wembley in the play-off final sealed the deal and saw Villa back in the big leagues, where they belong.
Whilst the team wasn’t the most naturally gifted in terms of talent, they will forever go down as legends for restoring pride in the shirt and bringing Premier League football back to Villa Park.
And despite that achievement being just three short years ago - only five first team players from that matchday squad remain - a number that is expected to shrink further over the coming weeks and months.
So where exactly are the 17 lads now that featured in the squad on that memorable day in May.
1. Jed Steer
Started in goal in the play-off final. One of the few that remain with the club now though his time could be up shortly following Robin Olsen’s deal.

2. Ahmed Elmohamady
Finished his career with Aston Villa, retiring in 2021.
3. Axel Tuanzebe
Had a short stint with Villa at the beginning of this campaign before returning to Manchester United and opting for a move to Napoli for more game time. Things haven’t gone well this season for Tuanzebe.
4. Tyrone Mings
Still very much part of the Villa set up, captaining the side to this day.
