Villa Park is on the list of English stadiums set to be contenders to host fixtures at Euro 2028.

The UK and Ireland looked set to be confirmed as host countries for the tournament before Turkey submitted an application just prior to the March deadline. UEFA will announce the winning entrant next September .

Birmingham City Council has revealed that it is backing the stadium in Aston to be used one of the tournament’s primary venues, as it pushes to optimise the Commonwealth Games legacy with Birmingham hosting more major events.

10 English stadiums are in contention to host fixtures for Euro 2028, although they are expected to be narrowed down to six or seven by Uefa. Villa Park is among the favourites to be chosen to host games for the tournament. Ireland is expected to have two host stadiums – the Aviva Stadium and Croke Park in Dublin, and with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland would have one each.

The Times has recently reported that the number of English stadiums on the list of contenders to host games for Euro 2028 is now down to just ten. Anfield, Elland Road and the Emirates Stadium have surprisingly been omitted from that list, and there are also some surprise inclusions.

Anfield and Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge have reportedly been excluded because their pitches are too small. Leeds United have been unable to persuade their local authorities to commit the time and resources required to host games for the tournament.
