Aston Villa have provided a major update about an injury for Argentina international midfielder Emi Buendía.

Aston Villa midfielder Emiliano Buendía has suffered a significant knee ligament injury, the club has announced.

The Argentine, who was in fine form in pre-season, sustained the damage during a training session on Wednesday.

Buendía has had a scan to ascertain the severity of the injury and will be under review indefinitely until the next steps are made clear.

This update comes just a couple of hours after news broke that the Villans are looking to sign Galatasaray midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.

It appears the Italian could be a replacement for Buendía on a fairly long-term basis given the level of damage likely sustained.

BirminghamWorld wishes the 26-year-old a speedy recovery.
