Real Madrid winger Eden Hazard has revealed his relationship with Carlo Ancelotti has completely broken down amid speculation surrounding his future at The Bernabeu. The likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle United were linked with a surprise move for the Belgian in January and it’s a story that’s still bubbling under the surface.

The player himself has now given some clarity about his situation in an interview with Belgian publication RTBF, with both some positives and negatives for those interested in signing him. One revelation is a breakdown in communication with his head coach, whereas another is his desire to keep fighting for a place.

“There is respect between us but I’m not going to say that we talk to each other, because we don’t talk to each other,” Hazard said of Ancelotti. “But there will always be respect. Even if tomorrow he doesn’t play me anymore, I have to respect a guy like Ancelotti. What he represents in football, what he has done through his career, there’s no problem.

“For me, I will still be at Real Madrid next season, but you never know. I miss it and I want to play – I want to have fun on a field. Training is good, but what makes us live are the matches. I hope in the depths of my heart that I can bring something and that the coach is still counting on me,” Hazard continued.

The former Chelsea superstar may have optimism about a future in the Spanish capital but the statistics tell a different story. Hazard has appeared just three times in La Liga this season, with a mere 296 minutes played across all competitions. The Champions League offered some slight consolation with a goal and assist, but he is well and truly out of sorts.

Now aged 32, it feels like a now-or-never situation for Hazard to revive his career. With Villa and Newcastle both looking to improve their squads for the prospect of European football over the next few seasons, a return to the Premier League could suit all parties. The player would likely have to lower his wages, however, for either club to consider.
