‘Disgraceful performance’ - Aston Villa react to desperately disappointing opening day defeat to Bournemouth

Deja Villa

It was Deja Vu to the opening day of the 2021/22 season for Aston Villa as they put in a well below par performance to lose to newly promoted Bournemouth.

Jefferson Lerma gave the Cherries the lead within the opening two minutes and Kieffer Moore wrapped things up towards the back end of the second-half.

It’s the second-season in a row that Villa have struggled on the opening day and the fans have not been impressed with what they have seen.

Here’s a snippet of some of the reaction from the claret and blue faithful:

@Andy1009392: Absolutely disgraceful performance from the players and staff, Gerrards insistence on picking countinho who is an absolute shadow of the player he once was is bordering on embarrassing. Like the managers son being picked on a Sunday morning, pathetic performance.

@baileyzboyz: Nice one gerrard keep picking coutinho, mcginn and watkins mate we will definitely get europe.

@TomUTFV: Can someone please tell me what John mcgin offers to us? Hasn’t been good enough since we got promoted.

@kirky_splenders: POOR !60% effort, tactics none existent and predictable, Mr Gerrard its alright being sergeant major and all demanding but if you other skill on tactics & play is not there it means nothing , now Micheal Beale has gone we can see he was the brains only 1 player stood out,Kamara.

@amc89avfc: 3 wins since March. Let that sink in. Crap. Already feels like a very wasted pre season. Quality needed, big time. Dire first day back! Absolutely gutted.

UrbanHarry99: The little hope I had for this season has gone lmao, half this team is no where near as good as we think it is.

@danbardell: I’ve never been one for overacting on here or in general but this has been absolutely pathetic from #AVFC. The 2 goals showing that nobody has wanted to take an ounce of responsibility or put their body on the line. Slow, ponderous and I’ve not seen one thing I’ve liked.
