Chelsea vs Aston Villa injury news - as huge list of 12 players ruled out and five doubts

Aston Villa have had some bad luck with injuries so far this season but they will consider themselves fortunate when looking at their next Premier League opposition, Chelsea.

The Villans have four players ruled out and one doubt but the Blues have a remarkable eight guaranteed to be sidelined and a further four who are doubtful for Sunday’s clash at Stamford Bridge.

Unai Emery provided the latest team news update after Thursday’s 3-2 defeat to Legia Warsaw, detailing Diego Carlos won’t be able to feature this weekend.

It’s not all doom and gloom for the Brazilian, though. “We are thinking next week he could be ready to train with the group,” Emery told Birmingham Live.

Winger Bertrand Traore is a potential inclusion for Sunday’s trip to the capital as he’s nearing a full recovery from an unknown muscular injury.

Timothy Iroegbunam has been training alone throughout September and won’t play, whereas Tyrone Mings and Emi Buendia remain out with long-term knee problems.

Mauricio Pochettino has all sorts of problems when it comes to team selection but there could be four returnees this weekend, including some key players.

Noni Madueke is the biggest doubt of the quartet as he recovers from a minor strain picked up on international duty, while Marc Cucurella (illness) is the likeliest to feature.

Trevoh Chalobah has been back in training with the group but will probably still be sidelined, whereas Moises Caicedo is being assessed with a knee issue.

In terms of those definitely unavailable, Wesley Fofana (ACL), Christopher Nkunku (knee), Romeo Lavia (ankle) and Reece James (hamstring) lead the way.

Benoit Badiashile (also hamstring), Marcus Bettinelli, Carney Chukwuemeka and Armando Broja (all knee) are the others set to sit this one out.
