Brazilian magic on a day Danny Ings gets the last laugh: Aston Villa player ratings vs Southampton

Four different scorers for Villa on a memorable day at Villa Park

Aston Villa made it back-to-back victories for the first time since Steven Gerrard’s first two games in charge thanks to an emphatic 4-0 win over Southampton.

Danny Ings completed the rout against his old club whilst Philippe Coutinho, Douglas Luiz and Ollie Watkins all got themselves on the score-sheet.

It was a highly impressive display from Villa but Gerrard called for calm post-match, adding that it was simply two wins off of the back of a bad a run of form.

It’s a performance that the manager wants to see consistently week in and week out, not just every now and then.
