Bournemouth manager Scott Parker has confirmed that two of his three summer signings, Joe Rothwell and Ryan Fredericks, will miss the Premier League opener against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Rothwell, who signed on a free transfer from Blackburn Rovers has an issue in his upper leg that will see him miss time whereas Fredericks, formerly of West Ham United, is currently in training though will not be ready for the clash with the Villans.

The Cherries are down to the bare bones already ahead of the match with Parker claiming in the lead up to the contest that his side are now weaker than they were when they were in the Championship.

Eight players that were in and around the first team have left the Vitality Stadium this summer with only three coming in and of those, it’s currently only Marcus Tavernier that is fit and available.

Villa on the other hand go into the game with a near complete fresh bill of health and look stronger than ever after a busy summer in the West Midlands.

What has Scott Parker said about Bournemouth’s injuries?

“In the last game late on, he [Joe Rothwell] did a sprint and just felt a little something in his quad,” he told the Daily Echo. “He won’t be ready for the start of the season.”

“It wasn’t as bad on scan as maybe we initially thought. We are going to scan him in a week’s time to see exactly where it is but he will be missing at the start of the season.

“Ryan Fredericks is on the grass again. Again next weekend comes a bit too quick for him but he is on the right track.”
