Aston Villa will be looking to build on their 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion when they return to Villa Park to take on Southampton on Saturday.

Last weekend’s victory for Villa marked their first and only one of the month with the Saints on the other hand completing February unbeaten.

The form book prior to the Seagulls game was so lop-sided in favour of Saturday’s visitors but a win goes a long way in football and the claret & blue will be confident they can now make it back-to-back wins for the first time since November.

Peter Bankes will take charge of the contest between Villa and Saints with Ian Hussin and Wade Smith running the lines. Tim Robinson is on fourth official duties whilst Paul Tierney takes charge of VAR with the assistance of Lee Betts.

This weekend’s fixture will mark the second time Bankes has refereed a Villa game this year. He previously took charge of the game at Villa Park in August which saw the claret & blue draw 1-1 with Brentford.

Aston Villa have no fresh injury concerns to report ahead of Saturday’s game with Marvelous Nakamba remaining a long term absentee.

Bertrand Traore is edging closer to fitness but the game against Southampton should come too soon.

Morgan Sanson is pushing for a start after impressing in his short cameo in the win at Brighton.

The visitors on the other hand could be without up to four key players for the fixture. Kyle Walker-Peters, Shane Long, Mohammed Salisu and Moi Elyounoussi will all be assessed late on Friday to see if they are able to make the trip.
