Aston Villa stuck in bottom half, Europe escapes Wolves: Supercomputer predicts final Premier League table

New manager but same outcome for Villa whilst lack of investment could cost Wolves dearly

Aston Villa will see no improvement on last season’s final Premier League standings whilst Wolves will miss out on a European place by one singular point.

That’s according to everyone’s favourite (or not) resident supercomputer, who has predicted each and every result between now and the end of the campaign.

The computer, that is part of the website FiveThirtyEight, allows you to look at individual matches as well as the season as a whole to see everything from final league standings to the percentage likelihood of Champions League qualification - even for Burnley.

But what about BirminghamWorld’s very own Aston Villa and Wolves?

Things seemed to be looking significantly up at Villa Park following the arrival of Steven Gerrard in November. Results improved and big signings were made in the January transfer window leaving Villans everywhere buzzing.

In more recent weeks, however, performances have dropped and the ‘new manager bounce’ appears to have well and truly leveled out, with many now wondering if there has been any real improvement at all.

Wolves on the other hand currently find themselves in the final European qualification spot in the Premier League table with Bruno Lage continuing to overachieve.

The former Benfica boss is working with a threadbare squad at Molineux and with no significant improvement made in January, would it be really possible for this team to land a spot in the top seven?

Here’s how FiveThirtyEight have the Premier League looking in full come May 22.
