Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are targeting Aston Villa right-back Matty Cash as a potential replacement for the recently departed Kieran Trippier.

That’s according to The Sun who report that Cash is high on Diego Simeone’s list as a successor to Trippier who recently made his move back to the Premier League with Newcastle United.

Interest in Villa’s Polish right-back comes as no surprise.

Since his arrival from Nottingham Forest in 2020, the 24-year-old has become a favourite among fans, teammates and his managers alike.

Known for being an attacking full-back, Cash fits the mould for how many teams like their right and left-backs to play in 2022, especially one managed by Simeone.

On paper, both Cash and Trippier are extremely similar players so you can understand that this is a rumour that may well have legs to it.

The Sun go on to add that Atletico will likely wait until the summer to make a move for the Poland international but if they do so, could be forced into a bidding war due to a number of interested parties.

Thirty to forty million is said to be in the ballpark of what the Spanish giants are willing to offer to land their man which, if Villa did choose to sell, would be a nice return on investment for the claret & blue.

It cost just £14million to bring the former Forest right-back to Villa Park in the summer of 2020 - where he has since gone on to make 51 appearances, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
