Atletico Madrid are ‘confident’ that they can land Aston Villa right-back Matty Cash during the summer transfer window.
That’s according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, who claim the interest that the Spanish club held during January is still very strong following their sale of Kieran Trippier.

Atletico have had a huge gap in defence since Trippier exited for a return to the Premier League with Newcastle United and veteran manager Diego Simeone is still looking at options to plug it with during the summer window.
Interest in Villa’s ‘Polish Cafu’ was reported widely in January but with the lack of depth the claret & blue have there, letting Cash go at that point was never really going to be an option.
The 24-year-old’s performances have been far from his best during this season so far though they have improved significantly during Villa’s recent positive run of form.
If the interest of Madrid does indeed ramp up over the coming months, a sale will more than likely come down to whether or not Steven Gerrard feels it’s a position Villa themselves are going to be able to easily upgrade.

Since his move from Nottingham Forest in 2019, Cash has made 59 appearances for Villa scoring three times and providing six assists.
