Who has stood out for Aston Villa during the opening weeks of the new Premier League season?

Aston Villa have made a positive start to the new season as they look to replicate the extraordinary progress they made last time out.

With the prospect of a Champions League adventure lying in wait after last season’s surprise top four finish, Unai Emery’s men kicked off their new campaign with a 2-1 win at West Ham United thanks to goals from new signing Amadou Onana and Jhon Duran. A first home game of the season brought a first defeat as Arsenal claimed a 2-0 win at Villa Park - but Emery’s side returned to winning ways last weekend when Onana and Duran were amongst the goals once again in a 2-1 victory at newly promoted Leicester City.

Those results have left Villa sat in seventh place in the Premier League table as the league action steps aside for the first international break of the season. They are now just one point from the top four and three points adrift of joint leaders Liverpool and Manchester City, meaning there is plenty to play for when Villa return to action with a home game against struggling Everton next weekend. That game will precede an exciting point in the season as Emery and his players travel to Switzerland to face Young Boys in the opening game of the Champions League’s new look league format.

But with the first month of the season now consigned to the history books, how have the Villa players fared so far and who has stood out most? We take a look at their average ratings with the help of stats experts WhoScored.
