Aston Villa vs Stade Rennais team news: McGinn gets first start as captain, Mings not in squad

Some interesting calls made in Villa’s final friendly.

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has made his final team selection of pre-season as Villa line-up to take on Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais this evening.

John McGinn leads the team out as captain for the first time whilst the man that was stripped of that captaincy, Tyrone Mings, isn’t involved in the matchday squad at all.

The team in full sees Emi Martinez get the number one spot and he has a back four in front of him of Matty Cash, Ezri Konsa, Diego Carlos and Lucas Digne.

McGinn, Boubacar Kamara and Douglas Luiz are the middle three whilst Philippe Coutinho and Leon Bailey are preferred over Emi Buendia on the wings with Ollie Watkins the man leading the line.
