Aston Villa are back in Premier League action just three days after their last outing as they take on Fulham at Villa Park on Tuesday evening. Unai Emery’s side can extend their unbeaten run to 10 games if they avoid defeat but a win would be crucial in the top six fight.

Last time out, the Villans were fortunate to draw 1-1 away at Brentford as they didn’t really click into gear until the closing stages. Star goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez became the latest fitness concern that day as he went down with a stomach bug during the game and was taken off at half time.

Emery revealed the Argentine had actually thrown up in the changing room during the break. Speaking post-match, the manager said: “He had a stomach virus before the fixture but we tried to support him to play. After the first half, he was vomiting - no temperature - but his stomach, he was not feeling good,” Emery explained.

Villa’s head coach is hopeful Martinez will recover in time for Tuesday’s clash but there’s no certainty about that. Meanwhile, it’s likely Matty Cash, Boubacar Kamara, Leon Bailey and Philippe Coutinho will all miss out. “To recover in just a few days is difficult, but we’ll see,” Emery said about the quartet.

One of the backup options between the sticks, Jed Steer, is still out with fitness being built up ahead of pre-season. The long-term servant has been sidelined for over a year with an Achilles tendon injury. Elsewhere, defender Lucas Digne will be fine to play after suffering a kick to the face at Brentford – he just needs stitches.

Fulham are in a good position when it comes to their team news as just two players are unavailable for Tuesday. One of these is arguably their most key asset, though, as Aleksandar Mitrovic is still suspended after pushing the referee in an FA Cup tie against Manchester United a few weeks ago. Full-back Layvin Kurzawa is being assessed with a knee problem.

Ruled out: Steer (AVL); Mitrovic (FUL).

Doubts: Martinez, Cash, Kamara, Bailey, Coutinho (AVL); Kurzawa (FUL).
