Aston Villa have been urged by supporters to make a late move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher after news emerged Everton have made a last-ditch bid to sign him. The 22-year-old, who is also wanted by Newcastle United and West Ham United, could be a decent alternative to Matteo Guendouzi.

Unai Emery has been vocal about wanting to improve his squad in every position, but he is yet to bring in a central midfielder. Guendouzi has been the player subject to the heaviest interest, but Gallagher could perform a similar role for the Villans if they were to attempt a late hijack.

According to transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano, Everton have submitted a bid to sign Gallagher from the Blues. Romano said: “It’s a £40 million proposal plus £5 million [in] add-ons. Chelsea will make a decision soon as there are also other clubs interested – and the player has to decide his future too.”

Sky Sports News have confirmed Newcastle are one of the teams after Gallagher’s services, with Sheffield United star Sander Berge another option being explored. In response to this, and with a move for Guendouzi not going anywhere as things stand, Villa fans have taken to social media to urge their side to join the Gallagher race.

One supporter tweeted: “Emery would surely like Gallagher - perfect with the system we play. I have no idea why at this point we haven’t improved.” Another fan tried to spark a conversation as they wrote: “Conor Gallagher for £40 million? Would you want us in on that?”.

The Villa Park faithful are not the only ones to chip in, as former player Stan Collymore reckons Chelsea should let Gallagher go. “If it were up to me, I’d let him go,” Collymore told Caught Offside earlier this month. “He’s a player that’d not be short of suitors. The likes of Everton, Villa, and maybe even Newcastle,” Collymore said.

With just one goal and one assist in the Premier League this season, Gallagher has struggled to make his mark under Graham Potter and may be tempted to leave Stamford Bridge. It awaits to be seen whether a loan or a permanent deal would be preferred by the club and player, but Everton’s bid will force the Blues into a decision.
